01.08.2022 – Imperiale Racing got twice on the podium of Spa-Francorchamps (B) during the fourth round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe 2022, which has been the main supporting event to the prestigious TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.
The Mirandola-based team got to the double challenge at the Ardenne with the two official drivers Manuel Bejarano (ESP) and Hans Fabri (NL) behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracàn Super Trofeo Evo #89 in PRO and #88 in LB Cup.
At a surprisingly dry weekend, both drivers showed a good race pace thanks also to the great setup work, which was eased by the data collected in the testing session that Imperiale Racing ran with Bejarano on this circuit.
In qualifying the Spanish driver posted a good fourth time in Q1 (2’19.209s), while in Q2 he struggled to put together the best sectors ending with the tenth fastest time after getting close to P5 on two occasions when the time was cancelled due to track limits. The single lap pace of Fabri has been very constant and in both sessions, he secured P5 of LB Cup.
Bejarano put in a very positive performance in race one and he led the #89 Lamborghini Huracàn Super Trofeo Evo to P3 thanks to a spectacular overtaking move on Colombini at La Source. A drive-through penalty in the closing stages due to an irregularity at the pit stop made things trickier and Bejarano was relegated to overall P20, which was P8 of PRO.
Imperiale Racing’s driver completed another remarkable performance in race two as he managed to recover from P10 up to the top positions fighting for the podium. When only a few laps were remaining to the end, a 5s time penalty due to an overtaking under the safety car pushed Imperiale Racing’s driver down to P7 overall and P5 of PRO.
Hans Fabri claimed a double podium. The Dutch driver reached Spa-Francorchamps resolute to bounce back from the lack of podiums in the past four races and he successfully managed to do so. The LB Cup’s reigning champion made the most out of each occasion using his experience and claimed two podiums in LB Cup securing essential points for the championship.
Luca Del Grosso (Team Manager):
“Our goal was to bounce back with both drivers after some tough races, but we managed to do so only partially. We showed to have a great car in terms of pace – we definitely can be up with the best – but the details make the difference and this time our performance was affected by some episodes and distractions which prevented us from scoring a good result with Manuel. It is a shame because this was his best weekend in pace and performance, but we are certain the results will come. Hans got twice on the podium contesting a double race in his style: being constant and effective. The summer break will give us the chance to analyze all the details to get to Barcelona resolute to do well and ready to bounce back stronger”.
